Waterbeach Brass

A fun and friendly second section band in Cambridgeshire

Information for new members

Band Practices are held on Monday evenings at Waterbeach Barracks. Aim to arrive by 1930, with baton down at 1945. The practice normally ends at 2200, and there is usually a short interval for refreshment. If you are unable to attend a practice you should inform either the Bandmaster or the Chairman as early as possible. Extra practices may be held at the Bandmaster's discretion, for full band or sections, as part of preparation for contests/concerts.

An annual subscription is payable. The subscription is payable in two instalments being due on 1 July and 1 January. The amount of subscription is agreed at the Annual General Meeting, held on the last Monday of June, and is currently £120 per year with a reduction of 50 per cent for second, and further, members of the same household. Anyone who has problems paying should approach the Chairman in confidence. Members are encouraged to pay by Standing Order; details are available from the Treasurer.

Engagements, and contests, will be notified to the Band by the relevant Secretary. Members unable to attend should notify the Chairman as early as possible. The Committee operates with a Contest Secretary who is responsible for registration and for contest arrangements, and with a general Secretary who is responsible all other engagements.

Members dress in the official uniform for all engagements (unless otherwise directed by the Band Sergeant). The standard uniform is: Band Jacket, black trousers or skirt, white shirt, black bow tie (evenings) or Band tie (daytime), black socks or barely black tights (as appropriate), and black shoes. Band Jackets should only be worn when playing, and should be removed during refreshments breaks. An alternative uniform is as above with Band Jacket, white shirt and tie replaced with black shirt and no tie.

All Band members are asked to read the Band's Child Protection Policy and to register with the Child Protection Officer (Pam O'Connor) that they have done so.

Each Member is responsible for the care and cleanliness of all Band property allotted to them. It is recommended that all privately owned instruments be insured by the owner. The Band cannot be held responsible for any damage incurred to any privately owned instrument at any time.

The Annual General Meeting is held each year on the last Monday in June. All offices are open for re-election at the AGM. All paid up Members of the Band are eligible to vote.

An Extra-ordinary General Meeting may be called at the request of any 5 or more Members by writing to the Secretary, stating the reason for the request.

The present Committee is listed at this link. Committee Meetings are held about once every two months, usually at 8 pm. in the Waterbeach Social Club.
